For those who may not know much about you give us a bit of background info on yourself.
I go by the Alias of Relentless and I have been producing for around 4 years now, making an assortment of genres including Grime, Hip Hop, RnB & Electro.
How did you get the name Relentless?
When I first started out my name was Critikal, but after a while I began to dislike it so I started thinking of new names, then one night I just thought of Relentless and it’s stuck since really.
What got you into producing & why Grime?
It was my cousin that got me started, he was working with a crew as their main producer an also a DJ, so I fought I’d give it a go. Managed to get a copy of FL Studio 2 and just started from there.
As for making grime I used to be a huge garage fan back in the day, I loved the tempo and energy that it produced. Grime most definitely has that same energy.
What equipment are you using?
Right now I’m using FL Studio 10 with a whole heap of VSTS as well as a Midi Keyboard for all the inputting, quite a basic setup but it works for me.
You’re from Bedford, what is the scene like round them ways & who are the guys we should be looking out for?
It’s ok but quite limited as there isn’t really a studio round here. Macabre Unit are probably the only name that would have been heard of before within the Grime scene.
Being from out of London do you find it even harder to make a name in Grime?
At first I did as I was new to the scene and to be fair my stuff wasn’t really levelling, but now I think with help from networking sites and a lot of hard work I’m seeing results.
You produced all the tracks on Avalanch’s ‘Somebody Slap Me.’ How did you go about making the beats for this?
I think Avalanch added me on Facebook or something then holla’d at me to see if I wanted to work together. We decided to just jump straight in with Somebody Slap Me. I made a series of beats and he picked the best five, it’s continued from there really. Vol 3 will be coming out later this year. As for concepts for the tracks I would leave that down to Avalanch.
Which Mc’s & Producers would you like to work/collab with & why?
Hmm I don’t even know I don’t really collab to often as it usually complicates things. As for Mc’s it would have to be the usual big ones like Skepta, Jammer & Durty Goodz.
You’ve released a couple EP’s now (capital R ep, dangerous EP & the newly Inst-Relentals) how has the feedback been from them & what releases can we expect from you in the future?
All the feedback I have received has been all positive and I try to make sure each release is up a level. If you listen through you can definitely see the progression.
What are your personal opinions at the current state of Grime atm?
I think the last two years have been very healthy for grime, but I still think there needs to be more team effort involved, and I also get the feeling a lot of Mc’s are always looking to go mainstream. But along as new MC’s & Producers come through grime will always be there as well as pushing the boundaries.
Any shoutouts, info you would like to add?
As for shout outs, I’m not even gonna mention names cause that will take half a page lol, but big up everyone I’m cool with and currently working with as well, you (Selecta Fewie) respect.
